The surgical skills lab at CSCLV has been outfitted with state of the art equipment. Surgical skills training have been developed to aid in the shortening of the work week of the typical surgical resident; with this shortening training could no longer be random opportunities for practice. With that in mind the surgical skills lab has a full array of surgical instrumentation from typical open instruments to laparoscopic instrumentation devices. Surgical skills can also be trained on virtual reality simulators of which we have two both by Simbionix. The LapMentor has the capability to train laparoscopic procedures; including Bariatric and Obstetric and Gynecological procedures. The GIMentor is capable of simulating endoscopic gastrointestinal procedures; including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, and ERCP. The Surgical Skills lab is also a certified Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) test center as well as having to qualified proctors for the FLS exam. We also have 5 Karl Storz endoscopy towers, with these we have the capability of establishing full OR simulations and scenarios.

Surgical Skills has been a priority to the general surgery residency program for the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine for several years now. Although surgical skills lab is still a new concept we have been successfully applying it to our residency program for 3 years now. This last year was the first year that the curriculum provided by the ACS/APDS has been applied with great success throughout the year.
The Surgical Skills Lab at CSCLV is coordinated by Adnan Moshin.
